And just did. CNN, MSNBC, Fox News all call the election for Obama. And these crowd shots of thousands, ten of thousands, hundreds of thousands of people celebrating all across our country . . . absolutely amazing. I sit alone in my living room, the rest of the family having long gone to bed, surprised by an unstoppable flow of tears about this moment in history. Right now I’m even watching Bill Kristol praising our President-elect on Fox. I can’t wait to tell my kids about this moment in years to come.
Update from the morning after . . . this morning, while commenting on my friend Rich Eustis’ blog, I was able to better verbalize why last night hit me so hard: “It’s not so much that my candidate won (after all, I was for the other guy for a long time in this race) as it is a recognition of this moment in history. As a white male born and bred in the American South who has lived with and been a part of and been diminished by the long shadow of our history, I suddenly recognized how much of a victory this was for me, too.”
